In 1998, the inter-Governmental Committee on economic and trade cooperation was set up and the third session of the Committee was convened in Ho Chi Minh City in 2001. After joining the EU, a new inter-Governmental Committee on economic cooperation was established in 2006.
The two nations’ trade turnover increased from US$238 million in 2013 to US$249 million in 2016.
The Czech Republic poured US$91.3 million in 35 projects in Viet Nam, ranking 42nd among 101 nations and territories.
In the national export strategy in the 2012-2020 phase, the Czech Republic listed Viet Nam, the only country in ASEAN, among 12 prioritized markets.
Currently, more than 60,000 Vietnamese are living in the Czech Republic.
The two countries inked several cooperation agreements, including an agreement on double taxation avoidance in 2004, an agreement on economic cooperation in 2006, a protocol on cooperation between the two foreign affairs ministries and an agreement on cooperation in culture, education, science, youth and sports in 2016.
The Czech President’s State visit to Viet Nam aims to affirm the respect and hope for tightening the multi-faceted and traditional cooperative relations with Viet Nam, making their relations more intensively and effectively.
The visit creates an opportunity to discuss measures to boost bilateral cooperation in all areas, including economics, trade, education and training, labor exports and international and regional issues of mutual concerns.
