Nguyen Thi Phuong, deputy director of Agribank, said that on the first day of selling gold online on June 18, the bank saw only 50,000 registrations, but within the first few minutes of opening the website system on the second day, there were up to 140,000 orders placed simultaneously. However, the system processed smoothly without any congestion.
Agribank's online transaction system permits a large number of customers to register simultaneously, therefore, the bank received a full quota of registrations within a very short period of time.
Vietcombank started selling gold online from June 12. Gold buyers can access these banks’ official websites to register for gold purchases. After that they will get an email about the location, time and date for their transactions.
The banks say they can only sell gold bars to those successfully registering on the websites. If buyers come 30 minutes late, the registrations can be cancelled.
Allowing the banks to sell gold is the move to help stabilise the gold market.
