Nguyen Anh Hoa, Huy's father, said, "It's unbearable whenever I look into his eyes and see great pain there. This time, he becomes so quiet. He doesn't say anything much at all and only looks at other family members. I am so scared. It's like he feels like his time is coming."
Hoa's oldest daughter, 10-year-old Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, has had weak health since birth. They intended to bring her to the hospital but didn't have enough money so everything was postponed until Yen was three years old and fainted. She was later diagnosed with congenital heart disease.
Since then, they left their hometown in Nghe An and brought the children to hospitals in Hanoi. Nhi has had three operations together at Bach Mai Hospital. When they thought their family could be happy again, their son was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, cancer that begins in the muscle, fat, blood vessels or other supporting tissue of the body.
Hoa brought Huy to hospital after hospital. Huy had gone through an operation and four chemotherapy sessions.
Dr Hoang Thu Trang at K Hospital in Tan Trieu said, "His condition is very bad. He will have a total of nine chemotherapy sessions and then considered for radiotherapy. Since the tumour is located near the blood vessels of the left arm, his arm has become paralysed. After the treatment is completed, we'll assess his condition and see if we can save his arm then."
According to Trang, Huy needs long-term treatment. Even with health insurance, he still needs to pay for many expensive medicines.
"I'm helpless now. Please help my children," Hoa said.
