Thousands of people leave the city to their hometowns during Independence Day, September 2, causing congestion at many stations and roads.

People try to leave for their hometowns
At 5 pm of August 31, thousands of people left for their hometowns.
Giap Bat, My Dinh and Gia Lam bus stations in Hanoi received a huge amount of passengers, with many buses overloaded.
"I had to wait for hours for a bus from the Academy of Finance to the Giap Bat Station. Many people missed their buses because of overcrowding." Nguyen Van Thanh, a student in Hanoi said.
Even bus shelters at Giap Bat station were full of people. At 5 pm, the 206 bus, headed from Giap Bat to Phu Ly came in. People immediately flocked toward the bus trying to get a place. Those who were on the bus could not get out and nobody could get in, leaving the driver at a loss for what to do.
On Pham Hung, Nguyen Xien and Nguyen Thai Hoc streets, buses and cars formed a long line, while motorbikes used the pavement to get by.
