Computer virus becoming more malicious

Several Vietnam-based popular websites including Vietnamnet have recently been attacked by hackers, raising social concerns.

Some experts at BKAV (a local internet security company) have found hackers have recently spread virus into local organizations’ network systems to steal crucial internal data.

Besides, hackers could command some software-downloading websites whereby they install the virus into these sites to control botnet (a collection of software agents, or robots, that run autonomously and automatically) to cause Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks.

This problem is put on the alert after thousands of local computers have been taken over by hackers, causing a damaging impact on the country’s computer security.

Vu Ngoc Son – BKAV’s director of research department – warned that internet users should be careful when installing software from the Internet.

He added that they ought to regularly update anti-virus software to prevent malwares or trojans from penetrating into their systems and save their vital information into other storage devices like USB or portable hard disk drives.

According to an analysis conducted by BKAV, more than 1.4 million computers have been infected with fake-icon virus.

These malicious virus look like file.doc, file.jpg, file.xcl to cheat internet users.
