A charity group run by Mai Thi Hanh, wife of Former State President Truong Tan Sang, has supported many people in the central province of Quang Tri affected by recent storms.

A charity group run by Mai Thi Hanh, wife of Former State President Truong Tan Sang, has supported many people in the central province of Quang Tri affected by recent storms.

On Wednesday, the Sharing Charity Group co-operated with the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam to grant 4,000 gifts with each worth VND600,000 (USD26) to people in seven mountainous communes in Huong Hoa District which are located by the Vietnam-Lao border areas.

The gifts include rice, cooking oil, dry fish and some other necessities.

The delegation presented VND140 million (USD6,086) for dozens of local ethnic minority households to help them in the debt settlement.

They visited some local nursery schools and offered their students 2,000 warm clothes, books and food.

On the same day, the group also gave necessities for people in 10 villages of Salavan and Savannakhet provinces in Laos.

Hanh expressed her deep sympathy for the great losses caused by recent storms for people living in the Vietnam-Lao border areas.

On Friday, the team worked with authorities in Quang Tri Province on a plan to assist in the construction of flood-proof houses.

Earlier, at the end of October, they granted gifts for 1,500 flood-ravaged households in Quang Tri Province.
