Building contract signed for Lai Chau hydropower plant

A contract for the construction of the main work of the Lai Chau hydropower plan worth more than 11 trillion VND was signed in Hanoi on May 13.

A contract for the construction of the main work of the Lai Chau hydropower plan worth more than 11 trillion VND was signed in Hanoi on May 13.

The Son La Power Plant Project Management Board authorised by the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) signed the contract with a group of contractors including Song Da Corporation, Truong Son Construction Company, LICOGI Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation and LILAMA Corporation. 

The Lai Chau hydropower plant is Vietnam ’s third largest hydropower plant after Son La and Hoa Binh. Located on Da River, the plant’s has a 1.2 billion cu.m. reservoir and a designed capacity of 1,200 MW. 

The project, invested by the EVN, was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 819/QD-TTg in June 7, 2010 . Work on the project started on January 5, 2011 . 

At the ceremony, Director of the Son La Power Plant Project Management Board Nguyen Hong Ha pledged to coordinate closely with the contractors to ensure the first turbine begins operation in 2016 and the project is complete by 2017.
