
Stephen James Mcauley's family and border officers in Cat Ba Island on January 5
Stephen James Mcauley, 49, was reported missing at 6 pm on January 4 while on a holiday with his wife and son on the island.
According to a staff from Cat Dua Tourism Site, Trinh Phuc Man who informed the tourist missing to local authorities, Stephen James Mcauley and his family arrived at the site the same morning and started going around Cat Dua Island at 2.30pm.
"The wife told us that she and their son had gone kayaking while her husband decided to stay on the beach," Man said. "The wife and son returned at 5 pm but could not find the husband there."
10 border officers and two canoes were sent to search for the man around the island. At 11.45pm, he was found stuck on a cliff at the back of the tourism site. More people and equipment had to be sent in to rescue the tourist.
The tourist, who luckily had no injuries, said that he slid into the deep stream while exploring the mountain and could not get out.
