The information was announced in a newly-amended circular issued by the ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Education and Training. The circular will take effect from February 1, 2011.

The students will receive the stipend in USD, except for those studying in the west of Northern Europe who will receive Euros.

Students who study in the US, Canada, the UK and Japan will enjoy the highest stipend increase totalling USD200 per month, followed by those in Australia and New Zealand at USD172 per month.

Students who come back to Vietnam for vacation and for other working purposes will also get the stipend during the stay, if they submit applications to the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. This stipend will be deducted in the total amount that they get.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, around 60,000 Vietnamese students are studying abroad, including 4,000 receiving money from the state budget.
