Big C to resume Vietnamese apparel product purchase

The pledge was made following meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai on Thursday. The event also saw the participation of the Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Tanee Sangrat.

Among those, 50 firms had their orders resumed by Big C right on the same day, while orders would resume with 100 others in the next two weeks.

Big C would further consider whether it would continue orders from the remaining 50 other enterprises to ensure product quality.

Central Group and the Big C supermarket chain contribute around VND1 trillion (USD43.47 million) to the Vietnamese state budget annually, with the Big C chain accounting for around half of the figure.

Hai said that Vietnam recognised the active contributions of the group to Vietnam’s development.

According to Hai, regarding to the case between Big C and Vietnamese apparel firms, the two sides need to deal with the issues based on their contracts.

On Tuesday, Central Group suddenly announced that the Big C supermarket chain owned by the group will suspend apparel orders from Vietnamese suppliers from this month.

Central Group, in the letter, attributed the decision to its goal to restructure the group’s apparel business operations in the Vietnamese market.
