Beer consumption in Vietnam on the rise

Vietnam consumes billions of litres of beer each year and the figure is increasing.

In 2008, consumption of Saigon Beer alone was just over 1 billion litres, and forecasts suggest that it might reach 1.3 billion this year.

Vietnamese spends a total of about VND6 trillion (USD291.12 million) on beer and alcohol annually.

On the whole, locally made alcoholic beverages cannot meet demand. So more expensive imports have also become popular.

In fact, Vietnam ranks third in the world for consumption of Heineken, behind only the U.S., and France.

Last year, beer imports going through the Saigon Port increased 50% over the year before. This trend is expected to continue.
