According to an initial report from the Tan Thang Border Guard Station, the fisherman was harvesting seafood in the waters off Cu Mi, in Hiep Hoa Village, Son My Commune, on the morning of November 5.
While he was navigating the area, a fishing vessel engaged in fishing logistics services, identified as SG 666xxTS, caught the basket boat's net line, causing the small boat to sink immediately. The fisherman fell into the sea and went missing.
After discovering the incident, the fishing vessel's captain turned back to search for the missing man but failed to find him.
Following notification of the accident, the Tan Thang Border Guard Station dispatched a speedboat carrying five officers and mobilised three fishing vessels operated by local fishermen to join the search.
The fisherman's body was recovered later that evening and brought ashore.
The Tan Thang Border Guard Station is coordinating with Son My Commune Police to handle the case in accordance with regulations.
