The masks were excavated in Giong Lon Commune in Vung Tau City’s Long Son Town. They are the province’s first national treasures.
The masks were found at three tombs in Giong Son in 2003 and 2005 and are all rectangles with the shape of two opening eyes printed on. The masks date back to the first century BC to the second century AD, around the time of the Oc Eo culture.

The masks are being displayed at Ba Ria-Vung Tau Museum
Some other items, including bracelets, were also excavated from the three tombs.
According to Dang Minh Thong, vice chairman of Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee, the recognition will be a momentum for the province to continue preserving its cultural heritage.
