According to the ministry's report, 7,333 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 3,930 in Ho Chi Minh City, 882 in Binh Duong, 709 in Dong Nai, 367 in Long An, 288 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 167 in Khanh Hoa, 165 in Tien Giang, 141 in Can Tho, 134 in Tay Ninh, 78 in Phu Yen, 62 in Vinh Long, 61 in Binh Thuan, 60 in Dong Thap, 49 in Ben Tre, 31 in An Giang, 22 in Ninh Thuan, 20 in Son La, 17 in Kien Giang, 17 in Binh Dinh, 17 in Gia Lai, 15 in Quang Binh 12 in Lam Dong, 11 in Hai Duong, 10 in Hanoi, 10 in Quang Nam, nine in Hau Giang, seven in Dak Nong, seven in Quang Ngai, six in Bac Lieu, six in Ha Tinh, five in Ca Mau, four each in Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, and Lao Cai, two in Binh Phuoc, two in Ninh Binh, and one each in Ha Giang and Hung Yen. Among these new infections, 1,281 cases were found in the communities.


Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Friday, the city also recorded 4,060 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

As of Saturday evening, 196,806 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 117,906 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 200,715 including 198,376 locally-transmitted cases.

On August 7, a total of 4,305 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 66,637.

On Friday evening, a further 296 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 3,016.

The country has conducted over 8.52 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 863,323 people having received two doses.
