According to the ministry's report, 11,569 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in some localities such as tại Binh Duong (4,868 cases), HCM City (3,934), Dong Nai (743), Long An (449), Tien Giang (354), Danang (144), An Giang (131), Khanh Hoa (131), Dong Thap (116), and Kien Giang (112).
Today's patient tally showed a decrease of 524 infections compared to yesterday's figure. Among these new infections, 5,603 cases were found in the community. There were six imported patients reported.
As of Thursday evening, 388,814 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (194,100 cases), Binh Duong (86,050), Dong Nai (20,471), and Long An (19,495). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 392,938. The country now stands 66th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On August 26, an additional 18,567 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 188,488.
Also on Thursday evening, a further 318 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 9,667. The deaths were reported in HCM City (242), Binh Duong (46), Tien Giang (9), Dong Thap (3), Khanh Hoa (3), Long An (3), Vinh Long (3), Binh Thuan (2), Soc Trang (2), Hanoi (1), Ben Tre (1), Kien Giang (1), Thua Thien Hue (1), and Tra Vinh (1).
The country has so far conducted over 18.52 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.13 million people having received two doses.
