Vietnam reported an additional 15,527 Covid-19 infections in 61 localities nation-wide on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 15,522 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including HCM City (1,270), Ca Mau (1,072), Ben Tre (1,035), Hanoi (1,024), and Tay Ninh (922). There were five imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed an increase of 319 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 9,940 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 1,453,729 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (490,435), Binh Duong (288,279), Dong Nai (93,375), Tay Ninh (41,468), and Long An (39,474).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,459,175. The country now stands 32nd among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 15, an additional 2,992 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,063,428 .
On Wednesday evening, a further 283 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 28,616. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (74), An Giang (27), Binh Duong (25), Dong Nai (22), Tien Giang (18), Can Tho (23), Vinh Long (15), Long An (10), Soc Trang (9), Tay Ninh (9), Dong Thap (9), Binh Thuan (7), Kien Giang (7), Bac Lieu (5), Khanh Hoa (4), Ben Tre (3), Ca Mau (3), Hai Phong (3), Tra Vinh (3), Binh Dinh (2), Binh Phuoc (2), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (2), and Hanoi (1).
Vietnam on December 14 administered 568,806 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 135.20 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 59.00 million people having received two doses.
