Vietnam reported an additional 12,420 Covid-19 infections on Thursday and 12,523 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 12,399 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 36 localities such as HCM City (5,549), Binh Duong (4,531), Dong Nai (880), Long An (412), Tay Ninh (161), Kien Giang (135), and Tien Giang (115). There were 21 imported patients confirmed today.
The infection number showed a decrease of 264 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 6,138 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 571,745 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (278,703), Binh Duong (146,296), Dong Nai (32,059), Long An (27,216), and Tien Giang (11,274). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 576,096. The country now stands 50th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 9, an additional 12,523 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 338,170.
On Thursday evening, a further 345 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 14,470 . The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (203), Dong Nai (64), Binh Duong (40), Long An (8), Dong Thap (6), Tien Giang (5), Kien Giang (5), Binh Thuan (4), Can Tho (1), Khanh Hoa (2), Danang (3), Ha Tinh (1), Quang Nam (1), Tay Ninh (1), and Vinh Long (1).
The country has so far conducted over 24.78 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 4.18 million people having received two doses.
