Action Month for Children 2011 launched in Hung Yen

An Action Month for Children 2011 under the theme “For a safe, friendly and healthy environment for children” was launched on June 1.

An Action Month for Children 2011 under the theme “For a safe, friendly and healthy environment for children” was launched in northern Hung Yen province on June 1 by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Hung Yen provincial People’s Committee.

The launching ceremony was attended by former State Vice President and Chairwoman of the Sponsorship Council of the Vietnam Fund for Children Nguyen Thi Binh, MoLISA Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, provincial leaders, UNICEF representatives, and more than 500 children.

In his speech, MoLISA Deputy Minister, Doan Mau Diep said the Action Month for Children running from June 1-30 aims to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting and taking care of children for the benefit of national development.

With regard to this year’s target, he said, 80 percent of children with special circumstances will regularly receive support and care from the State and community, the number of underprivileged children will drop to below 6 percent and all children under six will have access to free healthcare services.

In addition, 88 TV programmes about children, social welfare and investment will be reduced, and children consultancy hotlines will be maintained round the clock to receive about 100,000 phone calls a year.

On the occasion, the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation, the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank donated nearly VND23 billion (USD1.11 million) to the Vietnam Fund for Children.
