$165M on poverty reduction in Northern mountainous region

PM Dung approved the outcomes of negotiations for a financial agreement and relevant legal documents between Vietnam and the World Bank on poverty reduction.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung recently approved the outcomes of negotiations for a financial agreement and relevant legal documents between Vietnam and the World Bank (WB) on poverty reduction, according to a statment from the government.

Out of the US $165 million investment for the Poverty Reduction in Northern Mountainous Areas Project (stage 2), the WB will lend US $150 million.

The Government chief entrusted the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam to ink these documents with the WB.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with relevant agencies and People’s Committees of concerned provinces will early conduct the project.

The project will be implemented in six northern mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Son La, Đien Bien and Lai Chau.

In the first stage of the Project, 68,000 households living in Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bái, Son La, Hoa Binh, and Bac Giang, were direct beneficiaries. The project also helped to better socio-economic infrastructure for agricultural productivity and local employment.
