According to Vietnam’s National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, as of 4 am this morning, November 8, wind speeds near the storm's centre were 150-166 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching 202-220 kilometres per hour.
Upon approaching the East Sea, the typhoon is expected to primarily move westward toward the northern Paracel Islands, then change direction to the waters off Vietnam’s central coast.
The typhoon is predicted to weaken, possibly downgrading to a tropical depression as it approaches Vietnam's central coast.
By 4 am on November 9, the storm is expected to be 540 kilometres northeast of the Paracel Islands, with a wind speed of 134-166 kilometres per hour.
Over the following 72-120 hours, the storm would move west-southwest at a speed of 10-15 kilometres per hour, making landfall along Vietnam's central coast.
All boats and ships operating in the affected areas have been warned of of violent winds and rough sea.
