A man in the central province of Quang Tri has handed over a rare monkey to authorities after it strayed into his house.

Realising the monkey was a protected wild species, Tuan captured it and handed it over to the authorities via the Quang Ninh Commune police on July 3.

The Quang Ninh police filed a report and transferred the red-faced monkey to forest rangers for care and release into the wild.

The red-faced monkey, scientifically known as Macaca arctoides, is classified as a Group IIB species and listed as endangered in the Red Data Book.
