Quang Tri-Quang Binh train service suspended

A train service intended to help civil servants travel between the central provinces of Quang Tri and Quang Binh has been suspended due to low demand.

The first DH2 train service from Dong Ha to Dong Hoi was initially scheduled to depart today, July 1.

The DH2 train is scheduled to depart Dong Ha in Quang Tri at 5.30 am and arrive in Dong Hoi in Quang Binh at 7.25 am each morning.

In the afternoon, the DH1 train departs from Dong Hoi at 5.45 pm and comes to Dong Ha at 7.45 pm. Each trip offers a total of 448 seats for passengers.

The one-way fare is listed at VND 105,000. Passengers buying return tickets enjoy a 25 per cent discount on the return journey, with the total trip cost coming to VND 184,000.

The train was brought to Dong Ha Station for service, but with only a few tickets sold, the railway sector decided to halt the service.

The low number of bookings may be due to an unsuitable schedule. The service will resume once there are enough ticket sales.

The Quang Tri Department of Construction estimates that 1,560 public employees will relocate to the new administrative centre following the merger. However, initial demand is low, with just five people booking same-day return trips and 41 registering for weekly travel.
