Minh Xuan Commune was hardest hit by Typhoon Yagi with 10 fatalities. In the aftermath of the storm, the local environment has become a breeding ground for various health risks, increasing the potential for disease outbreaks.
On November 8, residents gathered at the community house in Xuan Yen Village to receive free assistance. Many expressed their heartfelt gratitude, hailing the programme for its timely and compassionate support.
Residents got a range of medical services, including blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, abdominal ultrasounds, eye and ear-nose-throat exams, dermatology consultations, and free medications.
Nguyen Thi Tem, an 82-year-old resident of Yen Thuong Village, expressed her sincere thanks, saying, "I am very thankful for the care provided by the newspaper and the hospital team. The doctors offered thorough and detailed consultations."
Besides health check-ups, the team provided vitamins and essential medicines to address common post-disaster illnesses among residents.
Each VND300,000 (USD11.85) medicine package contains four boxes of vitamins and over 10 types of essential medicines, including antibiotics, dermatological creams, antifungals, cold remedies, eye drops, and children's medications.
Doctor Tran Hoai Nam from 19-8 Hospital noted that, during examinations, several individuals were identified as needing corneal transplants or cataract surgery. They were advised to seek hospital treatment for these procedures.
Many other people were diagnosed with skin diseases and urinary tract infection.
Nguyen Thi Ha, vice chairwoman of the Minh Xuan Commune People’s Committee, highlighted the free health consultations organised by Dantri/DTiNews and 19-8 Hospital as a meaningful and compassionate initiative. She extended her gratitude for the valuable support.
