Mai Chien Hiep, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cam Hieu Commune, Cam Lo District, confirmed on March 11 that the police had clarified the case involving a Japanese man stealing a resident’s car.

According to Hiep, a local man stopped at around 7.30 am on March 10 for breakfast at a restaurant in Cam Hieu Commune. While he was eating, an unfamiliar young man approached his car and attempted to drive off in it.
Witnessing the incident, residents quickly intervened and demanded that the young man exit the vehicle.

Upon receiving the report, local police arrived at the scene to investigate. Authorities identified the individual as Yamada Kaishin, a 24-year-old Japanese national.

Initial investigations revealed that on March 9, Yamada Kaishin had travelled by taxi from Hanoi to Danang to visit a relative. Another passenger was also in the cab.

When the taxi reached Quang Tri Province, Yamada Kaishin suddenly requested to leave the vehicle. Shortly after, he took a local’s car without permission.

The police investigation determined that Yamada Kaishin was experiencing psychological distress and had developed distrust towards the taxi driver and his fellow passengers. As a result, he decided to take the vehicle to attract attention and meet Vietnamese police officers.

Authorities confirmed that his actions were not motivated by an intent to steal the car, and the vehicle’s owner did not seek compensation.

Following the investigations, the police agreed to allow the taxi driver to continue transporting Yamada Kaishin to Danang.
