Hundreds of people have been deployed to search for missing victims of a flash flood in a village in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Hundreds of people have been deployed to search for missing victims of a flash flood in a village in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.

The incident occurred in Lang Nu Village in Bao Yen District on Tuesday,
burying 37 households with 158 people.

As of Thursday morning, 42 people have been found dead in the debris, nearly 20 were saved while rescue forces are still trying to search for 53 others who remain missing.

Rescue efforts are underway actively with the participation of around 300 soldiers, police officers, and many residents.

The search area still faces rain, which has posed challenges to the rescue forces. Some places are buried 10 metres under mud.

Dozens of coffins have been taken to Lang Nu Village to help the victims' families prepare for the funerals.
