On Tuesday, the police in District 9 inaugurated a camera control centre with a total investment of VND9.2 billion (USD400,000).

The project is divided into two phases. In the first phase, 479 cameras have been installed in the district, with the remainder installed in the second phase.
The cameras are connected to the surveillance camera system of 13 wards and concerned agencies in the district.
Colonel Trang Viet Thanh, head of the district police board, said footage from security cameras plays a key role in the city’s police work.
At the centre’s opening ceremony, police re-enacted robberies and motorbike racing to test the cameras.
Located in the northeast gateway of HCM City, District 9 has many complicated crime hotspots, especially when it is adjacent to the neighouring provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai.
Many other districts in HCM City have used cameras in crime control.
