On March 11, Doan Van Son, Headmaster of Quang Chieu Secondary School in Muong Lat District, Thanh Hoa Province stated that school representatives, along with the teacher and local authorities, had visited the student's home to apologise for the incident.
According to the student's mother, Loi, on February 5, she noticed her son had returned home later than usual. Upon questioning, she learned what had happened.
The teenager explained that the Civics Education teacher, Bui Thi Thu, had noticed he did not have his notebook. She then took a pair of scissors from another student and cut a portion of his fringe.
Outraged, the boy's parents reported the matter to the school.
Explaining her actions, Thu claimed that the student’s hair was too long, prompting her to trim his fringe.
"The teacher who cut the student's hair is currently responsible for teaching Civics Education," said headmaster Doan Van Son. "The school has suspended her from teaching for a week and required her to submit a written report on the incident."
A similar case occurred in Vinh Phuc Province in March 2023, when a teacher at Doi Can High School cut a female student's hair on the classroom podium because she had dyed the lower part of her hair a bright colour. While the school banned students from dying hair, the teacher later apologised to both the student and her family.
The case has sparked widespread public outrage, with many arguing that such actions constitute a violation of students’ personal rights.
