An official from the district told the Vietnamnet Newspaper on Tuesday morning that they have sent their proposal while carrying out Covid-19 prevention work to prepare for the reopening.
The pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake has been closed since last May to avoid mass gatherings for Covid-19 prevention. This is the fourth time Hanoi’s pedestrian space had to be suspended since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the capital city in early March 2020.
Hanoi People's Committee has also announced a plan to open a new pedestrian zone around Son Tay old citadel during the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) holiday with an aim to boost tourism.
The 820-metre-long pedestrian zone spans some streets around the citadel in the outlying town of Son Tay which is some 40 kilometres from central Hanoi.
It is scheduled to open from 7 pm Saturday until noon on Sunday, with contemporary art performances, street music, photo exhibitions, folk dance, calligraphy, boat racing, fishing, and water puppetry.
