A two-day state funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has been announced for July 25-26. However, many organisations, agencies, departments, and families in Hanoi and HCM City have flown the national flag at half-mast to honour the party leader.

The flag is flown at half-mast at a shopping centre on Hang Bai Street. A large screen outside the centre shows documentaries about the late party leader.

Resident Bui Nhu Quynh stood by the roadside to watch some images of the late official. "He devoted his life to the development of our country, and I'm very grateful to him," Quynh said. "His death is a great loss to me and all Vietnamese people."

A staff member hung the flag at half-mast outside the headquarters of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics on Ngo Quyen Street.

The flag is at the Ministry of Finance on Tran Hung Dao Street.

At Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper office on Ly Thuong Kiet Street.

The national flag has been tightened with a black ribbon on the rooftop of the Ho Guom Theatre in Hoan Kiem District.

A similar flag was placed in the yard of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, where the late party leader used to study.

In the house at 48 Hang Ngang Street, where President Ho Chi Minh prepared his Declaration of Independence, a black ribbon was attached to the party flag and the national flag, which were hung on the third floor.

Many other office buildings and houses in Hanoi and HCM City have also flown the national flag at half-mast to commemorate the late party leader.
