The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said average temperatures nationwide are expected to be 0.5-1 degree Celsius above normal, with some areas recording higher anomalies.
Heatwaves are forecast to ease across northern Vietnam and the north-central region from Thanh Hoa to Hue, while the south-central coast is likely to experience more frequent and intense hot weather than usual.
Rainfall is expected to be 10-30 per cent above average in northern Vietnam, the area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri and the northern Central Highlands, while most other regions are forecast to receive near-average rainfall.
Widespread heavy rain is expected mainly in northern Vietnam and the north-central region from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri, while the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are likely to see frequent showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoons and evenings.
The weather agency also warned that thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong winds could occur nationwide, particularly in northern Vietnam, the north-central region, the Central Highlands and the south.
Tropical cyclone activity over the East Sea and affecting Vietnam is expected to remain below the long-term average in August. Historically, the East Sea records an average of 2.4 tropical cyclones in August, with 0.8 making landfall in Vietnam.
Two tropical cyclones formed over the East Sea in July. Tropical Storm Maysak made landfall near Mong Cai in Quang Ninh Province, while Tropical Storm Noul came ashore in China's Guangdong Province.
The agency said the monthly outlook provides broad climate trends and urged authorities and residents to monitor short-term weather forecasts and warnings as extreme weather becomes more frequent under climate change.
