A report from Luc Yen District People's Committee said that the tragic accident happened at 2 am on September 10 in At Village when five houses were buried by a large amount of rocks and soil that fell from a nearby hill.

A rescue team of nearly 300 members were sent to the area and found five bodies inside the debris and two injured people who were sent to hospital. The team is still searching for four others who have been reported missing at the site.

"The area has seen heavy downpours following Typhoon Yagi over the past three days," the committee said. "More landslides may occur at the site, which makes rescue work difficult."

Yen Bai is among the hardest hit localities by landslides and flooding.
