HCM City-Con Dao express boat service set to launch this month

The express boat service linking HCM City and Con Dao Island in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is scheduled to enter service from March 28.

Thanh Thanh Phat Passenger Transport Co., Ltd. will operate the route using Phu Quy high-speed boats, each with a capacity of 374 seats.

The service will run up to one trip daily, with departures from Saigon Port in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, at 7 am. The return journey will depart from Ben Dam Fishing Port or Con Dao Passenger Port at 11.30 am.

The HCM City Department of Transport has instructed the route operator to strictly adhere to maritime safety regulations, fire prevention protocols, and environmental protection measures while ensuring passenger safety. Additionally, the company must complete all required procedures, including fare declaration.

Opting for District 4 as the departure point instead of Hiep Phuoc Port in Nha Be District will help shorten the travel distance for passengers.

Previously, the HCM City-Con Dao high-speed boat route, operated by Phu Quoc Express Joint Stock Company with the 1,000-passenger Thang Long vessel, encountered challenges due to its departure from Hiep Phuoc Port, which is around 20 kilometres from the city centre.

Passengers faced inconvenience with shuttle transfers, extra fees, and limited access at Hiep Phuoc Port, leading to the route’s closure in July after less than two months of operation.
