Police in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District on December 14 detained a driver for illegal transporting nearly half a tonne of firecrackers for use to celebrate the approaching Tet Lunar New Year holiday.

The arrested man was Dao Hong Nhat, 29, from Gia Lai Province’s Kong Chro District.
At around 11pm on December 11, the police stopped Nhat’s car driving along the Cao Bang-Lam Dong route containing 18 bags of firecrackers.
At the police station, Nhat confessed that he had been hired to transport 23 bags and two suitcases of firecrackers for a man named Tien in Cao Bang Province. Nhat had successfully transported five bags on November 21 and December 1. He was paid VND1 million (USD47.6) per bag.
Nhat was arrested in Hanoi when he was driving the car to Dak Lak Province.
The police is further investigating the case.
