Kumquat is a popular Tet decoration in Hanoi and Tu Lien Village is known for growing large numbers of the tree.
As 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, many farmers have grown the trees in pots shaped like a tiger.
Farmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, said that he bought the pots a year ago and grew the trees inside.
"Each pot of kumquat bonsai cost between VND 1.2-1.5 million," Hoang said.
Other farmers trim the bonsai trees into various shapes and sizes.
This big tree that is planted with dry wood and stones is priced at over VND 100 million.
Farmer Thu Trang said the tree has the shape of a sail which has a meaning of strong will for the new year.
In another garden, kumquat trees are planted in pots that have shapes of the Vietnamese traditional houses. Each pot is priced between VND3-10 million.
Another farmer grows his bonsai trees in high vases.
