Representatives from Dantri and Vinh Loi District People's Committee visited and transferred VND 242,580,215 to Ho Thuy Vy and her younger brother Ho Anh Minh at their home in Vinh Hung A Commune.

The money was sent to the newspaper's charity fund to support the two children over the past 20 days since their story was shared in the newspaper.

Receiving the donations, Vy, 14, said that she was very moved to have received such large support from many people.

"Many kind donors have also visited and given us over VND132 million over the past 20 days since our story was published in the newspaper," she said. "I want to say thank you a lot for your kind hearts."

Vy and her 10-year-old brother used to live with their aunt after their parents left them nearly 10 years ago. When their aunt got married and moved to live with her husband two years ago, the two siblings were left to live on their own in a small, badly deteriorated house left by their late grandparents.

Thanks to support from neighbours and local authorities, Vy and Minh are able to go to school and they do odd jobs to make a living.

Vice chairman of Vinh Loi District People's Committee, Tran Ngoc An, said that he was very happy that the children had received more support.

"They're very small so we'll help manage the donated money," the official said. "We'll use part of the money to upgrade their house and open a bank savings account to keep the rest for them."
