On December 22, the provincial steering committee overseeing preparations for APEC 2027 in the Phu Quoc special administrative zone, An Giang Province, approved a training and capacity-building scheme for personnel serving the meetings.

The programme aims to ensure a timely and coordinated supply of high-quality human resources across all aspects of organising APEC 2027, contributing to the island’s long-term sustainable development.

Training will not be limited to managers and frontline coordinators but will also extend to tourism and service workers, volunteers and the local community.

Courses will provide in-depth knowledge of APEC and build skills in protocol, diplomatic communication and international cultural conduct, helping raise service standards in Phu Quoc beyond the event itself.

The scheme identifies four core task groups, including international integration training to strengthen participants’ understanding of Vietnam’s role and Phu Quoc’s development potential in a global context.

Another focus is advanced training in diplomatic protocol and languages, with an emphasis on practical skills and diversified communication in English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese.

Additional components cover security, healthcare and emergency response to ensure absolute safety for the meetings, as well as environmental management and urban civility to preserve landscapes and promote an image of a green, clean and welcoming Phu Quoc.

The total projected budget of more than VND 5.5 billion (about USD 209,125) will be drawn from the provincial budget, potential central government support and lawful sponsorships and contributions from organisations and individuals at home and abroad.
