The flag carrier said that during peak seasons such as the Lunar New Year, fraudsters often exploit ticket shortages by advertising cheap fares on social media, promising convenient flight times or using fake transaction images to gain trust.

In many cases, after receiving payment, the scammers cut off contact or carry out fraudulent acts such as refunding tickets after issuance, causing financial losses for passengers.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year 2026 peak, Vietnam Airlines advised passengers to purchase tickets early and exclusively via its official website, the Vietnam Airlines mobile app, ticket offices and authorised agents. Passengers are also urged to request proper invoices to protect their rights. For support and ticket verification, travellers can contact the airline’s customer service hotline, official Zalo account or Facebook fanpage.

During peak periods, the airline also encourages passengers to plan early, book in advance and consider early morning or late night flights, which typically have more availability and lower fares than peak hours.

To meet surging demand over the holiday, Vietnam Airlines has increased capacity by about 60,000 seats, equivalent to nearly 300 additional flights, concentrated between February 9 and March 3, 2026.

Most added flights will operate from Ho Chi Minh City to high-demand destinations including Hanoi, Vinh, Haiphong, Thanh Hoa, Danang, Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon and Phu Quoc. The airline has also opened additional routes from Haiphong to Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot and Phu Quoc to help spread demand and ease pressure on key routes.

Vietnam Airlines also recommends online check-in within 24 hours before departure via its website, mobile app, VNeID, hotline or self-service kiosks at airports. The use of biometric technology is expected to shorten waiting times, particularly for passengers without checked baggage, helping reduce congestion during peak hours.
