The size limit for carry-on items remains 56×36×23 centimetres, and for personal items, 40×30×15 centimetres.

Under the new policy, hand luggage exceeding the weight allowance by up to 10 kilograms or the item limit, will be charged at the same rate as a checked-in bag, depending on the route. Oversized items will also incur a fee equal to the oversized checked baggage fee, while bags that exceed both weight and size will be charged as bulky checked baggage.

Carry-on rules vary by flight route, fare class and ticket issue date. On domestic flights with tickets issued before May 5, 2025, business-class travellers may take up to 18 kilograms across two bags and a personal item; premium-economy and economy passengers may take up to 12 kilograms, including one bag of no more than 10 kilograms plus an individual item.

For tickets issued on or after May 5, 2025, on flights to and from the United States, Europe (including Russia) and Australia, business and premium-economy passengers may carry up to 18 kilograms, while economy passengers may take up to 12 kilograms. On other international routes, business-class travellers may carry up to 18 kilograms; premium-economy and economy passengers may take one 10-kilogram bag plus one personal item, with a combined limit of 10 kilograms.

Children under two may take one three-kilogram item plus a foldable stroller; children aged two and above may take a foldable stroller.

The size limit for carry-on items remains 56×36×23 centimetres, and for personal items, 40×30×15 centimetres. Items exceeding size or weight limits must be checked. Vietnam Airlines may also require compliant bags to be checked if overhead space is limited. On ATR72 aircraft, the carry-on limit is seven kilograms.

Passengers on codeshare or interline flights are advised to check the baggage policies of the operating carrier.
