More than 600 durian-laden pickup trucks and thousands of residents and visitors gathered at Tan An Square in Krong Pac Commune early in the morning.
Following the opening ceremony, 500 trucks forming the official convoy were arranged to spell out "Dak Lak" before setting off in numerical order.
The convoy travelled along Tran Phu and Le Duan streets before taking National Highway 26 towards Buon Ma Thuot, completing a roughly 40-kilometre journey on Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
Vo Minh Hoa, a resident of Cu M'gar Commune and a member of the organising committee, said the event went smoothly and would help promote Dak Lak durians.
"We are farmers and always strive to produce the best-quality durians. The Guinness World Record will help make Dak Lak durians better known and expand sales both domestically and overseas," Hoa added.
Le Nguyen Hoang Sang, a Krong Pac resident taking part in the event, said the festival had grown significantly from its previous two editions and was being held at provincial level this year.
He hoped future editions could be expanded further and establish more records, helping promote Krong Pac and Dak Lak durians and increase their commercial value.
Sang noted that the larger festival and Guinness record would encourage growers to improve durian production and quality while boosting incomes and promoting Dak Lak's produce.
