According to the Tan Son Nhat Airport's operations centre, the schedule for January 2 included a total of 749 take offs and landings, carrying 119,874 passengers.
The international departure terminal was notably busier than the domestic terminal, handling more than 30,300 passengers, compared with about 28,300 travellers checking in for domestic flights.
In the opposite direction, travellers from provinces and cities began returning to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the first working week after the holiday. On January 2, the airport was expected to receive nearly 34,000 arriving domestic passengers.
Routing most arriving passengers through the new, spacious and modern Terminal 3 has helped ease pressure on baggage claim areas and taxi pick up zones at the Terminal 1.
Data from the airport operations centre also show that on the first day of 2026, Tan Son Nhat handled a total of 759 take offs and landings, serving 117,298 passengers across the entire airport.
