Street light failure at Dalat tourist site frustrates visitors

Broken street lights on a road in the Tuyen Lam National Tourist Site in Dalat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have troubled residents and visitors.

Hoa Hong Road in the Tuyen Lam National Tourist Site is 10 kilometres long and runs through pine forests, and the lighting system has not been working for months.

“We felt safe driving through the deserted forest with the street lights on. Now, without them, many people avoid this road at night. Some female staff even stay overnight at work after their shifts out of fear,” Hoang Duc, a resident, said.

According to Nguyen Quoc Tuyen, Director of the Tuyen Lam National Tourist Site Management Board, the lighting on Hoa Hong Street was installed in 2018. However, it has been out of order for the past year due to the deterioration of the underground wiring system, with many components damaged or broken by vandals.

Tuyen added that some parts of the underground power lines supplying the lighting system were damaged during road expansion and water supply installation works carried out for nearby tourist facilities.

The tourist site management board is working with concerned agencies to survey and propose solutions for repairing the lighting system.
