Tran Thi Quynh, who represents Vietnam in Mrs World 2013, faced public criticism because she wore a ribbon misspelling the name of her country as "VietNem"  in the final round.

During preparations for the performance for the final round, Quynh wore a ribbon with correct spelling, but during the final round, she wore another which had the spelling mistake.

In the evening the contestants were receiving the results, she wore it a second time.

Many have publicly wondered why both Quynh and Dr. Kim Hong, who is Vietnam’s only representative at the contest’s the jury, did not detect the mistake with the ribbon at both the final round and the granting ceremony. The Vietnamese team was also criticised for having hanged the Vietnamese flag in the wrong way.

According to Dr. Kim Hong, after the final round, the Vietnamese team found the mistake on the ribbon and informed the organising board.

Dr. Kim Hong said that David Marmel, the Chairman of Mrs World 2013 said the candidates had two types of ribbons at the contest: one for auxiliary activities and another for the rehearsal evening and the final round.

He added that the ribbon for the final round was given to candidates at the rehearsal evening, so the organising board did not check them. Besides Vietnam, some other contestants such as those from Ireland and the Dominican Republic also had ribbons with misspellings.

On behalf of the organising board, David Marmel apologised to the Vietnamese team for the mistake. He also sent the apology to the Vietnamese management agencies.

Afterwards, Marmel directly sent his letter explaining to the problem with the ribbon to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hoang Tuan Anh.

Quynh also apologised for the incident, explaining that due to the pressure from the contest, she did not look at her ribbons closely.
