More flights disrupted as typhoon Wipha intensifies

Typhoon Wipha has caused widespread disruption to air travel across Vietnam, grounding many domestic and international flights on July 21 and 22.

The Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and Vasco, announced extensive flight adjustments for July 21 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew as Typhoon Wipha moves closer to Vietnam's northern coast.

Vietnam Airlines will cancel several flights today, July 21, including routes between HCM City and Haiphong (VN1188, VN7188, VN7189, VN7056, VN7057) and between HCM City and Con Dao (VN1856, VN1857).

Pacific Airlines will reschedule flights BL6440 and BL6441 between HCM City and Haiphong to depart earlier, ensuring arrival at Cat Bi International Airport before noon. Additionally, flights BL6520 and BL6521 on the same route will be cancelled.

All flights operated by Vietnam Airlines Group at Cat Bi International Airport will depart after noon on July 22.

Flight schedules will be adjusted as the storm's developments unfold. Passengers will be notified via media channels and directly through their booking contact details.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has issued an urgent directive requiring round-the-clock readiness and strict adherence to storm response protocols to ensure safety and minimise disruption from Typhoon Wipha.

Airlines are urged to enhance coordination and closely monitor the storm to promptly adjust flight schedules and maintain operational safety.

The Aviation Meteorological Centre forecasts that from the night of July 21 to the morning of July 22, the western circulation of Typhoon Wipha may impact the Hanoi Flight Information Region (FIR). Between 6 pm and 9 pm on July 21, the storm's centre could enter Sector 2 of the FIR, about 240 kilometres from Noi Bai International Airport. Moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and visibility reduced to 1.5-3 kilometres are expected at Noi Bai on July 21-22.

On July 19-20, Vietnam Airlines delayed some flights, including those linking Hanoi and HCM City and Hong Kong.
