According to a meeting on January 9 between the Lam Dong provincial authorities and Airports Corporation of Vietnam, the airport will suspend operations to repair its runway and taxiways.

The construction period is expected to last about 4.5 months, with the goal of reopening the airport and restoring normal operations by mid August.
Located nearly 30 km from the centre of Dalat, Lien Khuong Airport was built by the French in 1933.
In June 2024, it was officially recognized as the first international airport in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. Lien Khuong serves as a key gateway and plays a major role in supporting Lam Dong’s tourism industry.
Under the approved master plan, by 2030 the airport will be upgraded to 4E standards, enabling it to handle wide body aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, with a capacity of 5 million passengers and 20,000 tonnes of cargo per year. After 2030, the runway will be extended to 3,600 metres, increasing capacity to 7 million passengers annually.
