The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre said the “Mystical Imperial Palace” programme will transform the Hue Imperial Citadel into a staged night-time experience recreating the atmosphere of the Nguyen dynasty court.

The event opens with a guard-changing ceremony at Ngo Mon Gate, accompanied by cannon-fire effects. Visitors will then pass through a torch-lit setting at Trung Dao bridge, enhanced by 3D projections of royal motifs.
A lantern dance performed by court ladies leads audiences to the courtyard of Thai Hoa Palace, where a re-enactment of a royal court session recreates the solemn rituals of the imperial era.
On the eastern side of the palace, a large-scale military ceremony and martial arts performance will showcase traditional practices, including flag dancing, staff routines, spear demonstrations and archery, combined with fire effects. The western side will host a “royal market” offering cultural experiences for visitors.
The programme also features interactive spaces such as traditional court games, alongside an ao dai show blended with hanbok, creating a cross-cultural performance. Modern elements include virtual reality experiences and an “imperial archaeology” zone, as well as exhibitions of orchids and ornamental plants across the citadel’s gardens.
From 5.30 pm each day, an imperial cuisine area will open within the complex, allowing visitors to dine before joining the night tour.
Blending tradition with innovation, the programme is expected to become a distinctive night-time tourism product, enriching visitor experiences and bringing heritage values closer to contemporary audiences.
