The Hue People’s Committee has approved an urgent construction plan with total funding of VND 2.2 billion (USD 84,000). The repairs are expected to take 45 days.

The collapsed part of the Imperial Citadel wall
The project will rebuild a 14.2-metre stretch of wall with an average height of 4.3 metres and reinforce adjacent sections to prevent further damage. Funding will come from the city budget, with the Hue monuments conservation centre appointed as investor and project manager.
The damaged section is on the citadel’s northern side along Dang Thai Than Street, about 180 metres from Hoa Binh Gate. The conservation centre has been instructed to incorporate technical input from city construction authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.

The wall restoration will cost around VND 2.2 billion
The wall collapsed at about 6.45 pm on November 2 after prolonged rainfall. Following the incident, the area was cordoned off, protective coverings installed and warning signs erected.
An inspection found the collapsed section was built with loosely bonded large bricks. The three-layer wall has brick facings with compacted clay in between, while nearby sections show inward leaning and cracking, raising concerns over further movement during heavy rain.
Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, said old bricks would be reused wherever possible to preserve the site’s authenticity, while compatible new materials would be added to ensure long-term structural stability.
