Lien Ninh Transport and Services Joint Stock Company announces the replacement of all diesel vehicles with electric buses across nine routes in Hanoi on December 4.
Hanoi raised the share of green energy buses to 26 per cent, the highest in Vietnam, after Lien Ninh Transport and Services Joint Stock Company announced the complete replacement of its diesel fleet with electric buses on December 4.
At the launch event, Doan Van Phan, director of Lien Ninh, said the company is purchasing and deploying 111 new electric buses across nine existing diesel routes during December. He said the switch aims to improve service quality, align with the trend of smart and green transport and support Hanoi’s plan to fully electrify its bus fleet by 2030.
Attending the event, Nguyen Manh Quyen, vice chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said the city intends to shift public transport vehicles, including buses, to clean fuels such as electricity and compressed gas by 2030 to curb pollution.
He said Lien Ninh’s decision to convert its entire fleet marks a major step forward for Hanoi’s passenger transport sector and helps the city reach a 26 per cent share of electric buses in 2025, which is already above the 20 per cent target set for 2026.
According to Quyen, eleven companies currently operate bus services in Hanoi. Following the announcement, both VinBus and Lien Ninh now run fully electric fleets. Other major operators including Transerco, Bao Yen, Newway and Xe Dien Hanoi have also begun introducing electric buses to replace internal combustion engine vehicles as part of the transition to cleaner public transport and improved urban living standards.
