Under the plan, the northwestern province aims to generate at least three million annual engagements across its official digital tourism platforms by 2030, while attracting at least 100,000 visits a year to its smart tourism system.
The province also aims to have at least 70 per cent of tourism businesses regularly updating information on the platform.

To enhance visitor experiences, Dien Bien plans to pilot the use of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to showcase tourist attractions.
Future offerings could include 360-degree videos, virtual tours of key destinations, interactive digital maps and AI-powered virtual assistants.
The province also plans to digitise information on all recognised tourist sites and historical relics, while requiring each commune and ward to develop digital promotional content, including articles, photos, videos and QR codes.
Dien Bien has identified three priority tourism segments: historical and spiritual tourism, ethnic cultural and nature-based tourism, and wellness and leisure tourism.
Promotional efforts will focus on key attractions such as the Dien Bien Phu battlefield relic site, the Dien Bien Phu-Pa Khoang tourism area, and destinations in Muong Phang, Tua Chua and A Pa Chai.
International marketing campaigns will target traditional and potential markets, including ASEAN countries, China, France and Japan.
The province also plans to promote cross-border tourism routes linking northwestern Vietnam with northern Laos, China's Yunnan Province and northern Thailand.
According to provincial authorities, Dien Bien welcomed more than 1.45 million visitors in 2025, generating tourism revenue of over VND 2.6 trillion.
The province aims to attract more than 1.6 million visitors and generate over VND 2.88 trillion in tourism revenue this year.
