Cruise ship operator refunds customers over disappointing services

A cruise ship operator in the northern city of Haiphong has refunded a group of 14 tourists following their service quality complaints.

At around 10:00 pm on April 6, the hotline of Quang Ninh Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism received a complaint from a group of about 14 tourists regarding unsatisfactory service provided by the Haiphong-registered Taliya Cruise.

Earlier, the group had booked a buffet dinner on the Taliya Cruise, which was operating in Tuan Chau Ward, Ha Long City.

However, the group found that the buffet quality fell short of expectations given the price, food was insufficient, and dishes were served slowly. They recorded videos of the experience and called the hotline of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Upon being informed of the case, inspectors confirmed that the cruise ship was not registered in Quang Ninh and asked Ha Long City authorities to co-ordinate for resolution.

Following discussions with the Quang Ninh Port Authority, Ha Long City authorities verified that the Taliya Cruise HP 6289 is registered in Haiphong and had picked up the tourist group at Tuan Chau Port. Preliminary findings showed that the travel agency provided false advertising and misleading information when selling the service to the tourists.

A representative of the Taliya Cruise apologised to the tourists and refunded them in full, admitting the failure to deliver the services as initially promised.
