The nearly 112-year-old landmark, built between 1912 and 1914, has been repainted with a vivid red-tiled roof and cream-yellow walls, highlighting its white lettering and decorative details.

The market’s iconic clock and main signage have also been refreshed, while the forecourt has been redesigned with wave-like patterns and bold colours.

Although renovation work is still under way, the revamped appearance has already drawn large crowds of residents and tourists, many stopping to take photos.

Despite the fast-paced construction outside, trading and sightseeing inside the market have continued as normal, without disruption.

Dozens of workers are racing to complete remaining items, including landscaping and the planting of flowers and trees around the square.

Nearby buildings are also being upgraded, including the historic Railway Transport building, whose facade is being repainted to create a more cohesive streetscape.

The upgrade is part of a broader urban beautification plan approved by city authorities, covering seven key locations including Ben Thanh Square, Turtle Lake, Phu Dong Roundabout and major central streets such as Nguyen Hue and Dong Khoi.

The project is scheduled for completion before February 10, ahead of the holiday peak, while market activities inside Ben Thanh continue uninterrupted.
